VEHICLE TRACKING SYSTEM WITH GPS AND GSM
Vehicle tracking
system is one of the hot topics in embedded systems industry. With the help of micro controllers Global Positioning System (GPS) and GSM technologies a
vehicle can be tracked any ware on the globe.
GPS
(Global Positioning System) is a navigation system composed of a flotilla of
satellites put into orbit by the Department of Defense, and their ground
stations. With GPS, one can automatically determine the precise location
(latitude and longitude) at any point on earth using a ground device that picks
up signals from multiple satellites. It works continuously in any part of the
world and is available to anyone free of charge. With origins in secret
military applications, GPS is now part of everyday life. Dedicated receivers
are small and inexpensive and GPS technology is now found in airplanes, boats,
automobiles, cell phones, personal digital assistants, and many other common
products. Probably the most useful thing to know about the global system for
mobile communication is that it is an international standard. If you travel in
parts of world, GSM is only type of cellular service available. Instead of
analog services, GSM was developed as a digital system using TDMA technology.
In
this project microcontroller communicates with LCD, GPS module and GSM modem.
This system will be placed in a vehicle, which is moving. The microcontroller
will poll GPS module in prefixed intervals and sends the vehicle location
information (Latitude, Longitude) to central station over GSM network.
